Before her career in Real Estate, Susan earned a degree in Interior Design and worked in the field for several years. As a matter of fact, she still uses her design skills everyday and as part of her real estate services she offers staging to our clients during the selling process, as well as shares her knowledge and expertise with buyer clients trying to envision as home as their dream space. And with the recent addition of Black Dog Renovations to The Susan Morris Team’s scope of work, she’s using those talents even more. Needless to say, she has a great eye for design.
Probably the most frequently asked question that she gets in terms of design, especially when it comes to staging a home for sale, are what paint colors she recommends. It’s the easiest, most inexpensive, and most impactful change you can make to a space, so I’ve asked her to compile a list of her tried and true go-to’s, as well as some choices based on current color trends for me to share with all of you! Take notes…
Trim in SW White Dove- Pinterest
For trim, it’s always white. White is clean and freshens up any dated space. You can go either warm or cool with it depending on the rest of your home’s look. If you’re looking

SW Mindful Gray-The Creativity Exchange
We all know that neutral is king when selling a home and grey is Susan’s favorite. If you’ve seen our Farnham Drive renovation, you’d know what I mean. Grey is gorgeous with white trim and helps artwork and decor pieces to stand out. But grey can also give off different vibes depending on the shade, so here are her picks depending on the look you’re going for.
Very subtle grey – Revere Pewter, Benjamin Moore
Medium grey – Stonington Gray, Benjamin Moore
Darker grey – Mindful Gray, Sherwin Williams
Dark grey – Ellie Gray – Sherwin Williams
– yes they are coming back!
Even though her business is selling homes and staging, Susan doesn’t shy away from color. Pastels are trending right now and making their way back into homes all over Richmond. If you saw our recent post about pink being all over Richmond’s staged homes, you’ve seen how gorgeous and inviting they look in a variety of spaces. But it’s not just pinks that are getting a shout out, blues and greens are also a big hit and Susan has a few pastel picks she says you can’t go wrong with this year.
Pink – Sugarcane, Benjamin Moore
Blue – Misty, Sherwin Williams
Green – Sea Salt, Sherwin Williams
Those are her current favorites, but if you have other thoughts in mind or a specific hue you want to incorporate in your space (even if you’re not selling your home and just want a change for yourself) just ask her! She loves giving color suggestions and helping friends fall back in love with their homes through color!!
