Why buy new when you can own a furniture piece with a story? All over the Richmond area are some fantastic locally owned stores that are a blast to browse for unique pieces for the home. These are just a few of our favorites.

Thrill of the Hunt

This storefront in historic Ashland, VA is the work of a husband and wife team dedicated to bringing its customers one of a kind upcycled pieces, with some antiques and vintage finds sprinkled in. It’s the cutest shop with inventory that’s always changing and their staff is known for being absolutely amazing and friendly. Owner, Cathy Wood, was even trained by Annie Sloan and her team in New Jersey to become Central Virginia’s 1st Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan stockist. If you’re in the Ashland area, stopping by is a must! Oh, and fun fact, our own Emily Maltby worked here during her college years at Randolph Macon!!

RVA Antiques

This place has it all! True antiques, upcycled furniture, salvaged items, furniture painting services, paint supplies, and even monthly classes with their “paint goddess”, Selma Harlow, so that you can learn the techniques to refinish your own pieces. Their shop is a massive 10,000 square feet of goodies to shop and browse. We could spend all day here!

The Vintage Owl
